DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE – Mentor/Master Guide

goku-who

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse you have the chance to learn the typical skills of beloved characters of the Dragon Ball universe by becoming their apprentice. There are fourteen mentors or masters to choose from by now (including the two DLC mentors). In this guide we will show you how to unlock each one of them, how to unlock their challenges and the skills you learn from each mentor.

The mentor or friendship bar

Firstly you have to unlock and find the mentor. Keep in mind that not every mentor is always in the city waiting for you. You will have to refresh the city multiple times to find the one you need or want. After you’ve talked to a character and chose him as your mentor, you will automatically unlock his or her first quest. Complete the quest to get one of the mentor’s skills. From now on, you can also take a look at his/her friendship bar, by pressing the options button and choosing Play Data. Here you can see how many quests you’ve completed for each of your mentors, the rank you got by fulfilling their mission and of course the friendship bar. In order to unlock most of the mentor challenges or quests, you have to increase this bar and max it to get the best skill of each mentor. You can do this easily in one to two hours by following these simple rules:

  • Complete parallel quests or storyline missions.
  • Choosing your mentor as a NPC to help you complete offline parallel quests.
  • Using a skill that you got from the trainer also affects the increase of the friendship bar.

Z-Soul equipment

By mastering a mentor you will not only get the skills of this character, but also an individual master Z-Soul which increases the damage output of this character’s skills by far.

“The Z assist”

Another way to deal more damage is to choose the suitable mentor for your Ultimate attack, like choosing Piccolo as your mentor and his last skill Special Beam Cannon as your Ultimate. This way you have a good chance to see a big Z on your screen while using the Ultimate attack, which will raise the damage output of your skill tremendously.

Keep in mind that you don’t need to equip the matching master Z-Soul to cause a Z assist. The master Z-Soul is not responsible for the Z assist.

Get Gohan and Videl the Z-soul equipment “I’m…I’m okay!”. The only way to get this item is by completing the parallel quest #47, which is “Super-Super Ultimate Series of Battles!”. You can accept this quest from Kid Trunks, who is standing right in front of the World Tournament area. This mission is one of the hardest parallel quests in the whole game, so you should better be prepared. I did it by spamming my Final Flash as a Super Saiyan while my Z-soul “Why yoooou!” filled up my whole Ki bar after I’ve killed an opponent. The item “I’m…I’m okay!” should be dropped after you’ve defeated Videl, so if there is no pop-up that says “You got Equipment”, just do it again until you get it. You can also try to find an existing lobby in the online parallel quest section to make this mission way easier.

3. Challenge – Hawk Charge

  1. What skill is beerus talking about when he says “did you find the skill that can beat me.”

  2. You don’t have to beat the Cell Saga to get Cell. I’ve only beaten the Freeza Saga and he’s my mentor. Strangely enough, I haven’t seen Freeza yet.

  3. I’ve been looking for gohan/videl and i can’t seem to find them and I’ve restarted the city like 10 times i only ever see krillan or vegta (who I’ve mastered ) any advice?

    • Yes, refresh the city again (in case you’ve finished the Buu Saga). The appearance of the mentors depends on luck, so it can take some time to find the one you need.

  4. Gotenks is my master now but do you know when he will teach you the next move after galactic donut?

  5. I don’t think using a skill that you got from the mentor affects the friendship bar. I tested this with Goku and Cell. I picked Goku/Cell as mentor and equipped their respective skill then bring them to PQ1. I spammed their skills for 2 hours (using a script I made) and when I finished the PQ, their friendship bars were still completely empty.
